To assign a table it tries three things in this order: the one that fits the party exactly, the one that merely fits and, only if none is left, joining those that can be joined within the same area. A single engine serves tables, booths or call slots.
A booking is always the same thing: a resource taken for a while. It makes no difference whether the resource is a table for six, a treatment room or a slot for a phone call. So there is one engine and you switch on what you use.
To assign a table it tries three things in order: the one that fits the party, the one the party merely fits into and, only if none does, joining tables that can be joined within the same zone.
