A slot shown as free really is: it comes from the same resource the dining room books.
An appointment is a resource and a window of time: the barber's chair, the booth or a technician's slot are the same thing underneath. The customer picks from a public page, without calling.
From there everything goes out on its own: the email with its .ics file, the reminder before the hour and the entry in the calendar of whoever attends.
